Course Introduction
This course introduces in detail the realization and application of two major categories of fixtures (European metrological fixtures and North American functional fixtures), including fixture principles, fixture design, fixture positioning, fixture application, go/no-go gauge design, material selection, heat treatment, fixture identification, fixture internal verification methods, fixture datum determination (such as the body coordinate system datum spheres used in the automotive industry), fixture design, and principles and rules of fixture tolerance allocation. The course content aims to help learners master comprehensive and effective evaluation, verification, acceptance or rejection corrective actions of outsourced supplier fixtures according to product drawings, and possess the basic ability to evaluate fixture cost and quality. Correct allocation of fixture tolerances helps reduce measurement risks, including false acceptance of defective products and rejection of qualified products. The prerequisite for learning this course is completion of ASME Y14.5M-2009 GD&T understanding and implementation training or a good foundation in GD&T.
Training Benefits
- Understand the requirements, structural design, design principles and applications of two types of fixtures
- Learn to design fixtures to realize GD&T dimension and tolerance inspection
- Master the principles of fixture tolerance allocation and reduce measurement risks and losses
- Improve inspection and production capabilities
- Provide audit and verification capabilities for fixture suppliers
Target Participants
- Design/quality/process and manufacturing engineers, quality inspectors, fixture responsible persons, SQE and procurement and other personnel who need to design and use fixtures; learners need mechanical drawing reading ability, familiarity with basic concepts of mechanical products, and have participated in GD&T training (with basic ASME Y14.5M and ISO1101 knowledge)
