Course Introduction
Climate change affects human sustainable development and is a major challenge facing humanity in the 21st century. Greenhouse gas emissions and removals can occur at every stage of a product lifecycle, including raw material acquisition, transportation and storage, design and production, product use and final disposal. Product carbon footprint refers to the sum of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and removals at all stages of a product's entire lifecycle, expressed in carbon dioxide equivalent.
Many socially responsible enterprises have begun to calculate the carbon footprint of their products and take action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the entire product supply chain to mitigate climate change. Policies and regulations related to product carbon footprints will also gradually increase and become increasingly stringent. For example, the European Commission's proposal to amend the Battery Directive (2006/66/EC) requires battery manufacturers and suppliers to provide product carbon footprint declarations from July 2024, add carbon footprint performance labels indicating the battery's carbon footprint from January 2026, and require that battery carbon footprints not exceed limits from July 2027. China is also exploring the establishment of full lifecycle carbon footprint standards for key products and a full lifecycle carbon footprint tracking system for foreign trade products.
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) released ISO 14067:2018 Greenhouse gases — Carbon footprint of products — Requirements and guidelines for quantification in August 2018. As an internationally recognized ISO standard, it has attracted much attention since its release and has become the most widely used product carbon footprint assessment tool.
This course lasts 2 days and aims to help learners master the requirements for implementing product carbon footprint assessment and reporting based on ISO 14067:2018. The main content includes lifecycle assessment methodology and framework, the role and preparation requirements of product category rules, the steps of product carbon footprint assessment and the preparation of product carbon footprint study reports. This course is based on interactive teaching with cases, involving product carbon footprint cases from multiple industries, allowing learners to fully understand and master the methodological knowledge and skills of product carbon footprint assessment.
